The South Hamilton Hawks basketball team made the venture into northeast Iowa on Tuesday night, as they took on the #6 Dunkerton Raiders in the Class 1A, District 3 final. South Hamilton entered with a record of 9-12, while Dunkerton entered at 22-1.
Following the trend of the first two postseason games, South Hamilton would jump over the Raiders in the first quarter, using three, 3-pointers to take a 13-7 lead after the first quarter. Jump shots weren’t falling for Dunkerton, but the Raiders ability to get the rim and draw fouls helped push them in front by the score of 21-16 at halftime.
The second half was a case of the 6th-ranked Raiders imposing their will on the Hawks, driving to the basket and getting layups and drawing fouls, while South Hamilton struggled mightily shooting in the basketball. In the end, Dunkerton moved on to the Class 1A, Substate 2 final by a score of 52-34.
Preston Gillespie led all scorers with 20 points for Dunkerton, the Jewell Market Player of the Game was South Hamilton’s Teegan Trask, who finished with 6 points in his final game as a Hawk. South Hamilton’s season ends with a record of 9-13.
