The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys and Eagle Grove Eagles wrestling teams made the trip east on Saturday morning, to compete at the Class 2A, District 7 wrestling tournament at Iowa Falls-Alden High School in Iowa Falls. The Cowboys and Eagles were joined by the host Cadets, BCLUW-SH, Clear Lake, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and Osage.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would wind up with the 2nd-most qualifiers in the district and the most qualifiers out of the 5 KQ-area teams, with 7 wrestlers advancing to the state tournament: Ryan Hartwig (106), Rigo Bobadilla (113), Ethan Traub (126), Kaden Hanson (138), Caleb Seaba (145), Mack Seaba (160) and Ashtin Willms (220).
Hartwig would defeat Osage’s Tysen Stangel in a 4-2 decision in the 106 lbs final, while Rigo Bobadilla fell to Eagle Grove’s Mack Morgan in the 113 lbs final, but did not need to wrestle back for 2nd as he already defeated Osage’s Garrett Tusler. Ethan Traub would pull an upset at 126 lbs, defeating Iowa Falls-Alden’s Andon Barrick in overtime with a 10-8 sudden victory, before Kaden Hanson took home the 138 lbs title with an 8-6 decision over Osage’s Darren Adams. Caleb Seaba would place 2nd at 145 lbs, losing to Osage’s Tucker Stangel in the title match, but did not need to compete in a wrestle back, brother Mack Seaba would place 2nd at 160 lbs, losing a 4-3 decision to Osage’s Max Gast, but also avoiding a wrestle back. Finally, Ashtin Willms would be pinned in the 220 lbs final by Osage’s Barrett Muller, but Willms advanced without wrestle back. CGD would place 2nd with 185 points.
Eagle Grove would qualify 3 wrestlers with Mack Morgan (113), Kaden Pritchard (120) and Jack Mendoza (195). Morgan would deliver the Eagles only district title at 113 lbs, pinning CGD’s Rigo Bobadilla. Kaden Pritchard would place 2nd, as he medical forfeited to Osage’s Blake Fox, and Jack Mendoza would advance after losing to Osage’s Cole Jeffries at 195 lbs, but was able to avoid a wrestle back. Eagle Grove would place 4th with 106.5 points.
