Webster City, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows splits basketball doubleheader

The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams butted heads for the 2nd time this season, as the two North Central Conference rivals faced off at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School in Clarion.

The Cowgirls look to have a more convincing performance over the Lynx compared to their first outing, and Liz Ennis’s crew accomplished just that, as CGD led 11-5 after the first quarter. Both sides traded blows in the 2nd quarter, with CGD holding a 29-22 halftime lead, but the Cowgirls would explode in the 2nd half behind the play of senior guard Lexie Lane. CGD outscored Webster City 48-19 in the 2nd half en route to a 77-43 domination. Lexie Lane had a game and career-high 39 points, including 8, three-pointers. Livia Kasch led Webster City with 14 points off 4, three-pointers.

A much anticipated boys game followed, as CGD looked to find a way to upset the Lynx, as they nearly did in early January. However, the Lynx would not allow such events to transpire, dominating the Cowboys from start to finish in a 70-43 win. Jamie Grossoehme led all scorers with 25 points, including 6, three-pointers, while Ty McKinney and Briar Klaver added 13 points each. Carson Nesheim led CGD in scoring with 13 points.

Webster City returns to action on Monday night, as they host Hampton-Dumont-CAL in NCC action. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Monday night, as they host West Hancock in non-conference action.
