The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip down to Des Moines to face off with the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action. The Norsemen girls entered Friday with a 9-7 record and 8-2 mark in conference play, while the Roland-Story boys entered with a 15-1 record and a 10-0 mark in conference play.
Roland-Story’s girls would take care of business from the outset, leading Saydel 19-5 at the end of the first quarter, which was then extended to a 30-8 halftime lead. The Norsemen kept the foot on the gas in the 2nd half, en route to a 56-27 win. Alyssa Jones led all scorers with 19 points off the bench, including 5, three-pointers. Ryley Pecina led Saydel with 8 points.
The boys game followed as the Norsemen once more took command from the get out, leading 18-9 after the first quarter, and then extended to a 37-13 halftime lead. The 2nd half saw the Saydel offense wake up and begin to go blow-for-blow with the Norsemen, but the margin was too great for the Eagles to make up in Roland-Story’s 73-45 win. Isaiah Naylor led all scorers with 21 points, while Kale Lande added a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, Cade Boten led Saydel with 16 points.
Roland-Story returns to action on Monday night, when they host South Hardin in non-conference action at Roland-Story High School.
