The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Gaels of St. Edmond in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx girls entered with a record of 3-12 overall and 1-8 in the conference, while the Lynx boys entered with a record of 11-1 and 6-1 in conference play.
Mark Fisher’s Lynx got off to a good start with an 11-4 advantage at the end of the 1st quarter, before the two sides traded blows in the 2nd quarter, with Webster City holding a 23-18 halftime lead. The 2nd half saw the Lynx begin to put it together on both sides of the floor, leading 33-20 after the 3rd quarter, before pulling away for a 54-31 win. Olivia Gallentine led all scorers with 22 points, while Livia Kasch finished with 11 points.
The boys game followed with Webster City looking to keep pace in the NCC race against a St. Edmond team who had shown signs of marked improvement over the past number of games. Webster City would jump out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter, before the Gaels would fight and claw back to cut the lead to 26-18 at halftime. The 3rd quarter would be a particularly dominant one for the Lynx, as they shutout the Gaels 17-0 in the quarter to jump out to a 43-18 lead, before cruising to a 55-36 win. Ty McKinney scored a game-high 13 points for the Lynx, while Jackson Palmer led St. Edmond with 12 points.
Webster City returns to action on Friday night, when they travel to Clarion to take on Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in North Central Conference play.
