Eagle Grove basketball swept at Lake Mills

The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip up to the Iowa/Minnesota border to take on the Lake Mills Bulldogs in Top of Iowa Conference action. Eagle Grove’s girls entered with a 1-14 record and 0-9 in conference play, while the Eagle Grove boys entered with a 4-11 record and 4-7 record in conference play.

Eagle Grove’s girls opened the night with a strong start, only trailing the Bulldogs 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Lake Mills would turn up the intensity on both ends, as the jumped out to a 33-16 halftime lead. That high intensity would persist into the 2nd half, with Lake Mills outscoring the Eagles 35-11 in the half to cruise to a 68-27 win. The Bulldogs were led by senior Josie Helgeson with 14 points.

The boys game followed as the Eagles faced a daunting task with a Bulldog squad that came in 15-0 and ranked #10 in Class 2A, and Lake Mills would flex there muscle early, jumping out to a 24-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Eagle Grove would show fight in the 2nd quarter, but still trailed 40-16 at halftime, as Lake Mills would then outscore the Eagles 37-20 in the 2nd half en route to a 77-36 win. Lake Mills Eli Menke led all scorers in the game with 21 points off 7, three-pointers.

Eagle Grove returns to action on Friday night, when they host Forest City in Top of Iowa Conference action at Eagle Grove Elementary School.
