The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys wrestling team returned to action on Tuesday night, with a tri-dual at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School against North Central Conference foes in the St. Edmond Gaels and the (2A) #6 Humboldt Wildcats.
The Cowboys started off against St. Edmond, as Ashtin Willms opened at 220 lbs with a forfeit, before CGD’s Reid Huntley pinned Max Webster in the first period to put the Cowboys up 12-0. CGD would get one more pin and forfeit before St. Edmond got on the board with a Ronnie Orres major decision over Kolton Hefti at 120 lbs to make the score 24-4. Ethan Traub would pick up a pin a 126, before a Kaden Hanson forfeit win put the Cowboys up 36-4, as St. Edmond followed that with their only pin of the night, with Sam Myer pinning Bryson Warren at 138 lbs to make the score 36-10. CGD would win 4 of the final 6 weights to clinch a 57-17 win.
Soon following, CGD would have a chance to spoil Humboldt’s opportunity for an outright NCC dual title with an upset win. Ryan Hartwig opened with an 8-2 decision over Aden Prenger at 106 lbs, before Humboldt ripped off three wins in a row with a major decision (113 lbs), a pin (120 lbs) and a simple decision (126 lbs). Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would then extract some revenge at the middle weights, with a Caleb Seaba decision over Zayn Feaster at 145 lbs, Cale Kirstein picking up a fall at 152 lbs over Daylin McDaniel, and Mack Seaba upsetting Jase Goodell with a 9-7 sudden victory at 160 lbs. Ty Gargano bumped up to 170 lbs for Humboldt and defeated Nash Lienemann in a 5-2 decision, before Gaige Allen and Ethan Kunert picked up decision wins to put the Wildcats up 28-18. CGD would make one last push, with an Ashtin Willms pin over Colby Caquelin, but Reid Huntley was unable to pick up any bonus points in a 4-1 decision over Kyle Caquelin at 285 lbs, as Humboldt claimed the NCC dual title by a final of 28-27.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action next Tuesday, when they wrestle Algona at Osage High School for their Class 2A Regional Dual.
