Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball swept at Clear Lake

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip north on I-35 to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action. The Cowgirls entered with a 7-8 record and 5-4 record in conference play, while the Cowboys entered with a record of 3-10 and 1-8 in conference play.

Both CGD squads faced daunting tasks with Lions teams that are at the top of the NCC standings, as the CGD girls started off in a tight one with the Lions, trailing just 16-13 after the first quarter. The 2nd quarter saw the Lions begin to clamp down on the defensive end, as they took a 32-17 halftime lead, which then widened to 48-27 after three quarters. Clear Lake would keep their foot on the gas in the 4th as they capped off a 69-38 win over the Cowgirls. Elliot Ennis led CGD with 13 points, while Clear Lake’s Jordan Maryland led all scorers with 22 points.

The boys game followed with the Cowboys facing a daunting task with the 3rd-ranked team in Class 3A and Clear Lake played to that standard, leading 17-6 after one. The lead only widened as the Lions played dominant on both ends of the floor, leading 36-12, before continuing the high-level intensity in the 2nd half for a 64-23 win. Nevan Foss led CGD with 8 points, while Clear Lake was led by Trevuaghn Luyobya and Titan Schmitt with 13 points each.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Friday night, when they host Webster City in North Central Conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School.
