The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, when they hosted the Golden Bears of Bishop Garrigan in Top of Iowa Conference action at Eagle Grove Elementary School. The Eagle Grove girls entered with a record of 1-12 and 0-8 in conference play, while the Eagle Grove boys entered with a record of 4-9 and 4-5 in conference play.
Eagle Grove’s girls had a daunting task with the #1 team in Class 1A and the defending state champions entering the gym, and the first quarter proved just that with Garrigan leading 27-9 after the first, and that lead was extended to 52-13 at the halftime break. From there, the Golden Bears would cruise to an 80-34 win. Chloe Steil was the Jewell Market Player of the Game for Eagle Grove, finishing with a team-high 9 points, while Iowa State-commit Audi Crooks had a game-high 18 points.
The boys game followed as Eagle Grove looked to avenge a 3-point loss they suffered to the Golden Bears in Algona. However, Garrigan came out as the aggressors and kept their foot on the gas all night, leading Eagle Grove 21-9 after the first, which was then extended to 37-19 at halftime. The 3rd quarter saw Garrigan blow the game open with a 26-8 advantage to lead it 63-27 going into the fourth as the Golden Bears cruised to a 75-49 win. Jordan Morris was the Jewell Market Player of the Game, finishing with a game-high 22 points, while Ryan Noonan led Bishop Garrigan with 16 points.
