The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. The Cowgirls entered with a 6-8 record and 4-4 in conference play, while the Cowboys entered with a 3-9 record and 1-7 in conference play.
CGD’s Cowgirls got things started fast against IF-A, as they jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter. The 2nd quarter saw the Cadets offense pick up some steam, but Liz Ennis’s squad still outscored IF-A 18-11 in the frame and led 40-17 at halftime. IF-A’s offensive output would continue to improve throughout the 2nd half, but CGD never slowed down on the offensive end en route to a 71-48 victory. Sawyer Morrical had a team-high 22 points with 5 assists, while Lexie Lane finished with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, Ella Sharar had a game-high 27 points for Iowa Falls-Alden.
Jason Berning’s Cowboys followed up with another defensive slugfest, as neither offense could put together big runs in the game. In the end, however, it was Iowa Falls-Alden that came away with a 47-39 win. Preston Gardner led the Cowboys with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Caden Hankins finished with 10 points, Andrew Bicknese had a game-high 13 points for the Cadets.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Clear Lake to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action.
