The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they welcomed in the Nevada Cubs to Roland-Story High School for Heart of Iowa Conference action. The Roland-Story girls entered with a 7-6 record and 6-2 conference record, while the Roland-Story boys entered at 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference.
Roland-Story’s girls started the night slowly, trailing a Nevada team who was looking to avenge their December loos, 15-8 after the first quarter. However, the 2nd quarter saw the Norsemen flip a switch, and they would outscore the Cubs by a 37-15 margin in the next two quarters, then coasting in the 4th to a 50-39 win. Madi Bauer and Alyssa Jones shared the game-high in scoring with 11 points each, as Claire Truesdell also contributed 10 points, Emma Strottman led Nevada with 10 points.
The boys game would show a big contrast, with an offensive shootout unfolding in Story City. Nevada would lead 24-22 after the first quarter, but Roland-Story would claim the lead by halftime with a 40-36 margin. The 2nd half did not see the offenses slow down at all, with the Norsemen leading 61-55, and holding on through the 4th quarter for an 85-80 win. Jonovan Wilkinson led the Norse 19 points, while Luke Patton put together a statline of 15-9-5. Nevada’s Jacob Khounsourath finished with a game-high 26 points.
Roland-Story returns to action on Thursday, when they host South Hardin in non-conference action.
