The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams made the trek across Wright County to take on their county and conference rivals in the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in Top of Iowa Conference action. Eagle Grove’s girls entered at 1-11, while Eagle Grove’s boys entered at 3-9.
Eagle Grove’s girls continued to show their marked improvement, by keeping with the normally high-powered Broncos throughout the majority of the game. However, it was the play of Broncos star Addy Lamb in the 4th quarter that allowed Belmond-Klemme to pull away for a 43-30 victory. Lamb led the Broncos with 15 points, while Nadia Kaiser led Eagle Grove with 10 points.
The boys game saw Eagle Grove face off against a Belmond-Klemme team who had just snapped a 38-game losing streak against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows the night before. Riding high off the win, the Broncos would battle the Eagles close throughout, with Eagle Grove pulling away to an 8-point lead going into the 4th. However, the Broncos would give one last surge, but Eagle Grove managed to put away a 56-52 win. Drake Canavan led the Eagles with 20 points, while Jordan Morris finished with 15, Tyreon Franklin led all scorers for Belmond-Klemme with 22.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Thursday, when they host the North Union Warriors in Top of Iowa Conference action at Eagle Grove Elementary School.
