The Webster City Lynx wrestling team made the trip north and west on Thursday night, to compete in a tri dual with the Humboldt Wildcats and Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets at Humboldt High School. The Lynx entered with a 10-3 record in duals, and 3-0 in NCC action.
Webster City opened the night with Iowa Falls-Alden, and wasted no time in dismantling the Cadets by a score of 76-6. The Lynx saw pins from Dawson Bertran, Brayden Henely, Jordan Vankham, Austin Mason and Dylan Burnette-Bingham, while many others picked up forfeit wins to improve Webster City to 11-3 and 4-0 in the NCC.
Chad Hisler’s Lynx would then face their toughest challenge yet with a Humboldt team ranked #9 in the Class 2A dual rankings by the IWCOA. The match started at 126 lbs, where Jayden Gargano pinned Gavin Wynkoop to make it 6-0 Wildcats right off the bat. The Wildcats would continue to roll though the first 6 matches with 2 more pins, and 3 simple decisions to lead 27-0 after 6 weights. Webster City would stop the bleeding with an Austin Mason 5-4 decision at 170 lbs to get the Lynx on the board. Following a decision loss at 182 lbs, Webster City would rattle off 4 wins in a row, with falls from CJ Hisler and Jaxon Cherry, and decisions from Landon Griffin and Linden Phetxoumphone. However, a loss at pin at 113 lbs from Humboldt’s Cyler Cirks gave Humboldt the win, even with a Carson Doolittle forfeit win at 120 lbs, by a final of 36-27.
Webster City returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Perry to compete in the Perry Invitational at 10 AM.
