The Webster City Lynx basketball teams made the trip to Gowrie on Tuesday night, to face off with the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-conference action. Webster City’s girls entered with a 2-9 overall record, while Webster City’s boys entered at 7-0 and ranked #7 in Class 3A according to the IHSAA.
Mark Fisher’s squad would get off to a slow start on Tuesday night, trailing Southeast Valley 15-11 after the first quarter, however, the Lynx would flip the margin in the 2nd quarter, as the game was tied at 26-26 at halftime. Webster City would then outscore Southeast Valley 14-8 in the 3rd quarter, but had to hold off a final surge from the Jaguars to hold on to a 54-52 win. Olivia Gallentine led the Lynx with a season-high 17 points.
The boys game followed and Webster City would hold control in the game throughout as the Lynx improved to 8-0 with a 60-47 win over Southeast Valley. Jamie Grossoehme led the Lynx with 23 points, knocking down 6-of-11 from three-point range, while Briar Klaver finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
Webster City returns to action on Friday night, when they travel to Iowa Falls to take on the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action.
