The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Indians of Pocahontas Area in non-conference action in Clarion. The Cowgirls entered with a record of 4-6, while the Cowboys entered with a record of 2-6.
Liz Ennis’s squad had a daunting task ahead of them, with the 9th-ranked Indians coming to town, but the Cowgirls brought the fight to their visitors in the 1st quarter, with CGD down only 8-4. The second quarter was more of the same, with CGD only trailing 18-16 at halftime, however the Pocahontas offense would awaken in the 2nd half and in a big way. The Indians would outscore CGD 40-14 in the 2nd half to pull away for a 68-40 win.
CGD’s boys followed looking to get back into the win column in non-conference play, and got off to a good start in searching for that goal, leading Pocahontas 18-12 after one, which was then extended to 35-27 at halftime. The third quarter saw the Cowboys offense take off, scoring 26 points in the frame, allowing them to cruise to a 70-39 win. Carson Nesheim led all scorers with 26 points, while Nevan Foss added 16 points.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Algona to take on the Algona Bulldogs in North Central Conference action.
