The Eagle Grove Eagles wrestling team made the trip south into Madison County on Saturday morning, to compete in the annual Gary Christensen Invitational at Winterset High School in Winterset. The Eagles were joined by the host Huskies, ADM, Bishop Heelan, Carlisle, Clarinda, Clarke, East Union, Martensdale-St. Marys, Pella, Southwest Iowa, Urbandale, Van Meter, Waukee and Woodward-Granger.
The Eagles top placer was Mack Morgan, who finished 2nd at 113 lbs, as he pinned Bishop Heelan’s Max Lamson and Woodward-Granger’s Cory Saxton en route to the final, where he was pinned by Carlisle’s Aiden Serrano late in the 1st period. Hayden Schafer would place 3rd at 126 lbs, after losing a 6-5 decision to James Dorrian of Woodward-Granger, Schafer picked up back-to-back pins over Pella’s Garret Hall and Bishop Heelan’s Ethan Lamson, before defeating ADM’s Grayson Sutter in an 8-6 decision in the 3rd place match.
Eagle Grove would have 3 wrestlers that would place 7th in Cooper Thacker at 120 lbs, Connor Christopher at 145 lbs and Trent Sorenson at 195 lbs. The Eagles return to action on Thursday, when they have a quad dual against Lake Mills, Rockford and (2A) #1 Osage.
