Following their sweep of PCM on Friday night, the South Hamilton basketball teams had a quick turnaround as they welcomed the Titans of South Central Calhoun to Bill Marsh Court on Saturday evening. South Central Calhoun’s girls entered with a 7-1 record, while the South Central Calhoun boys entered with a 6-1 record.
Both sides got off to similar starts in the girls game, with SCC leading 14-10 after the first quarter, extended slightly at halftime as the 11th-ranked Hawks trailed 35-28. the 3rd quarter proved to be where the wheels fell off for South Hamilton, as SCC outscored the Hawks 29-15 in the frame, vaulting the Titans to a 78-51 win over the Hawks. Makena Galetich led the Hawks with 18 points, while Riley Batta finished with a game-high 36 points for SCC, while Kylee Schleisman finished with 33 points.
The boys game followed with South Hamilton looking to build momentum going into a Tuesday night showdown with Roland-Story. The two sides traded blows in the 1st quarter, with the game knotted at 18. The 2nd quarter saw the Titans outscore the Hawks 26-21 to take a 44-39 lead into halftime. Matt Juber’s squad clawed back in the 3rd, cutting the deficit to 57-55 headed into the 4th. However, it was South Central Calhoun’s offense that was able to generate just a little bit more than the Hawks in the final frame, as the Titans picked up an 85-77 win. Reece Ricke led South Hamilton with 14 points, as 4 Hawks finished in double figures, Eli Wheelock led the Titans with 26 points, while Gavin Batta finished with 25 points.
South Hamilton returns to action on Tuesday night, as they host Roland-Story in a makeup game at South Hamilton High School in Jewell.
