The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Trojans of West Marshall in Heart of Iowa Conference action. Roland-Story’s girls entered with a 6-2 record and 4-0 record in conference play, while Roland-Story’s boys entered with an unblemished 7-0 record and 4-0 in conference play.
Madi Gelber’s squad looked to rebound from their loss to Iowa Falls-Alden by upsetting the 6th-ranked team in Class 3A, and got off to a good start in doing so, as the Norsemen led 22-18 after the first quarter. However, West Marshall was able to slow down the Norsemen tempo in the 2nd quarter, as Roland-Story only led 28-26 at halftime. The Trojans would then use the tempo change to their advantage, taking the lead in the 3rd quarter and never looking back in a 51-41 win. Claire Truesdell led the Norsemen in scoring with 9 points, while West Marshall’s Katy Reyerson poured in a game-high 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Roland-Story’s boys looked to maintain their undefeated record against the struggling Trojans, and made sure there weren’t going to be any upset scares early, as the Norsemen led 28-4 after the 3rd quarter. That lead was extended in the 2nd quarter as Roland-Story held a 47-9 halftime lead. The lead would only continue to grow as the #3 Norsemen brought home a 75-22 win. Isaiah Naylor had a game-high 24 points for the Norsemen, as Jackson Porter and Cash Johnston each finished with 5 points.
Roland-Story returns to action on Monday night, when they travel to Gowrie to take on the Jaguars of Southeast Valley in non-conference action.
