The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team made the trip north to Buffalo Center on Friday night, to take on the Bison of North Iowa in Top of Iowa Conference play. Eagle Grove’s girls entered with an 0-7 overall record, while Eagle Grove’s boys entered with a 1-6 overall record.
North Iowa was able to jump all over the Eagle girls from the get out, leading 11-3 after the first quarter, with the lead ballooning to 28-9 at halftime. Another big offensive output in the 3rd quarter put the Bison up 46-19 headed into the 4th as they cruised to a 51-28 win over Eagle Grove. Ashlyn Belcher was game-high scorer with 20 points in the win for North Iowa.
Eagle Grove’s boys came out hungry to try and capture a conference win and led the Bison 18-11 after the 1st quarter. The Eagles would maintain the lead going into halftime by a 39-34 margin, but by the end of the 3rd quarter, that lead had shrunk to a 51-50 lead. The 4th quarter proved to be a back and forth affair, but it was North Iowa that would have the last laugh, pulling out a 70-68 win. Eagle Grove’s Jaxon Morris finished with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists, while North Iowa’s Noah Hofmann finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Monday, as they host former North Central Conference rival St. Edmond at Eagle Grove Elementary School.
