Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball splits doubleheader with Hampton-Dumont-CAL

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams hosted North Central Conference action on Friday night, as they welcomed in the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL. The Cowgirls entered with a record of 2-5 and 1-3 in conference play, while the Cowboys entered at 2-4 and a 1-2 record in conference play.

CGD’s girls would take time to get things going against the one-win Bulldogs, leading only 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Cowgirls would extend the lead to 23-17 at halftime, before Liz Ennis’s group began dominating both sides of the floor, outscoring HD-CAL 25-10 in the 2nd half to take home a 48-27 win. Sawyer Morrical finished with 17 points on the night, while Lexie Lane and Elliot Ennis added an additional 10 points each.

Jason Berning’s Cowboys took the floor next against an HD-CAL team that is one of the more talented teams in the NCC, despite their 1-4 record. The Cowboys kept within arms reach in the first quarter, as they trailed 14-8 at the quarter break. However, the Bulldogs would outscore the Cowboys 22-14 in the 2nd quarter to hold a 36-22 halftime lead. The Cowboys were able to cut it to a 12-point deficit at the end of the 3rd quarter, but couldn’t come any close as Hampton-Dumont-CAL picked up a 69-56 win. Nevan Foss led the Cowboys with 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Scott Harr had a game-high 21 points and 18 rebounds.
