Webster City wrestling downs Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 44-24

The Webster City Lynx opened up wrestling action for the first time in 2023 as they hosted Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx entered ranked #8 in the IWCOA dual rankings in Class 2A, with a 6-3 dual record, while the defending conference champion Bulldogs entered with a 2-1 dual record.

The meet started at 160 lbs and it started fast and furious for the Lynx, with wins at 4 of the first 5 weights as Brady Jessen, Austin Mason, CJ Hisler and Jaxon Cherry all picked up first-period pins to put Webster City up 24-3. Landon Griffin would fall in a 4-0 decision to #5 Carter Heilskov at 285 lbs to make the score 24-6. Following a forfeit against Linden Phetxoumphone at 106 lbs, Jayson Stevens would pin the Lynx’s Dawson Bertran at 113 lbs to make the score 30-12. #1 Carson Doolittle would make quick work at 120 lbs, pinning Jaymes Stevens in the first period, followed by a Brody Strother 7-6 decision over Brayden Henely to make the score. 36-15. Charlie Showalter would follow up with a pin over the Lynx’s Adison Scott at 132 lbs, as Tristan Mason countered at 138 lbs with a 8-1 decision over Gage Plagge. Taylor Mahler would get a 3-1 decision over Luke Estlund at 145 lbs, before a Jordan Vankham tech fall (15-0) at 152 lbs sealed a 44-24 win.

Webster City returns to action on Saturday, when they compete at the Allie Morrison Duals at Marshalltown High School.
