Webster City basketball sweeps Greene County on Monday

The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned from the holiday break on Monday night, when they traveled to Jefferson to take on the Greene County Rams in non-conference action. The Lynx girls entered with a 1-7 record, while the Lynx boys entered at 4-0.

Mark Fisher’s girls squad would open with a winless Greene County team and appeared to be off and running early, leading the Rams 14-2 after the first quarter. However, the offenses would come to a screeching halt, with Greene County outscoring Webster City 11-9 combined in the next two quarters. The 4th quarter saw Webster City reclaim their control of the game, cruising to a 43-19 win to improve to 2-7. Ava Peterson and Alley Odland led the Lynx with 9 points each.

The boys game followed and the first half played out similar to the girls first half, with a quick Webster City start, followed by a lull going into halftime. However, the Lynx exploded out of the gate in the second half, as they poured on 47 points in the 2nd half, en route to a 70-41 win. Jamie Grossoehme had a game-high 19 points for Webster City, as Briar Klaver finished with 13 points.

Webster City returns to action on Friday night, when they travel to Humboldt to take on the Wildcats in North Central Conference action.
