The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action at home on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action. Webster City’s girls entered with a 1-6 record, while Webster City’s boys entered at 3-0.
The girls game would become a back and forth affair, against an HD-CAL team who was still search of their first win on the season. The Bulldogs held a 14-9 advantage after the first quarter, but Webster City would bounce back with a 13-4 margin in the 2nd quarter to take a 22-18 halftime lead. The two sides would go blow-for-blow in the 2nd half, with the knockout punch coming on a Jordan Valley three-pointer with 2 seconds remaining to give HD-CAL their first win on the season, 41-39.
Webster City’s boys followed looking to get into Christmas break with an undefeated record, despite a low number of games being played. The game would wind up becoming a back and forth affair, with the Lynx clinging to a 4-point lead in the fourth quarter. However, Webster City’s ability to get to the line and knock down free throws sealed a 53-43 win. Ty McKinney led the Lynx with 15 points, while Jamie Grossoehme finished with 12.
