South Hamilton basketball sweeps doubleheader from St. Edmond

The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams made the short drive into Webster County on Thursday night, to take on the Gaels of St. Edmond at St. Edmond High School in Fort Dodge. The South Hamilton girls entered with an unblemished 4-0 record, while the South Hamilton boys entered at 2-1.

Mark Henderson’s squad dismantled the Gaels in the opener, as the Hawks led 19-4 after the first quarter, which was extended to 37-9 at halftime. South Hamilton kept the pressure on in the 2nd half, leading 53-13 after three, before easing off the gas in the 4th for a 65-24 win. Hallee Feaker put on yet another 20+ point performance with 24 points, while Makena Galetich finished with 14 points as the Hawks improved to 5-0.

The South Hamilton boys followed, looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season to Greene County on Tuesday, and the Hawks answered in kind. Both sides traded buckets in the opening frame, with the score tied at 13-13 after one, but the South Hamilton offense would come to life in the 2nd, and led 33-23 at the halftime break. The 3rd quarter provided much of the same, with another 20-point quarter for the Hawks as they led 53-35 after three, en route to a 67-49 win. Carter Balvanz led the Hawks in scoring with 12 points, while Ty Koehnk had 11 points as the Hawks moved to 3-1.

South Hamilton returns to action on Friday night, when they host Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell.
