Webster City’s women faced a tough test in a South Central Calhoun team that spent most of last season ranked in Class 2A according to the IGHSAU. The Lynx kept in within arms length in the first half, trailing 15-7 after one, then 32-17 at halftime. However, the Titans put together a huge 3rd quarter, outscoring the Lynx 25-6 in the frame to cruise to a 61-31 win. The Lynx were led in scoring by Livia Kasch, who finished with 8 points, while Riley Batta led the Titans with 27 points.
The boys followed with Webster City looking to finish their brief non-conference slate with an unblemished record against a South Central Calhoun team that beat the Lynx in Rockwell City last season. Brett Ratcliff’s crew got off to a 15-6 lead after a quarter, extended to 30-14 at halftime, as the Lynx used tight defense and opportunistic offense to secure a 52-36 win. Briar Klaver led the Lynx with 22 points on the night.
The Lynx return to action on Friday, when they host Algona at Webster City High School in Webster City’s North Central Conference opener.
