The South Hamilton Hawks basketball team made the westward trip to Jefferson on Tuesday night, to take on the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action. The South Hamilton girls entered with a 3-0 mark, while the South Hamilton boys entered at 2-0.
South Hamilton’s girls would dominate Greene County from the outset, leading the Rams 23-6 at the end of the first quarter. That lead only grew larger in the 2nd quarter, as the Hawks led 46-10 at the halftime break. Mark Henderson’s squad kept the gas on the pedal in the 2nd half en route to a 76-17 thrashing of Greene County. All five South Hamilton starters scored in double figures, while Hallee Feaker led all scorers with 19 points.
The boys game would be a much closer contest, with the Hawks getting off to a slow start as they trailed 17-7 after the first quarter. The Hawks would battle back in the 2nd, but trailed 28-17 going into the halftime break. The two sides would match evenly in the 3rd quarter at 12-12 in the frame, before South Hamilton made their comeback bid in the 4th, but fell short 52-45. Ryland Ubben led the Hawks in scoring with 11 points on the night.
South Hamilton returns to action on Thursday night, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take on the Gaels of St. Edmond to St. Edmond High School in non-conference action.
