The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night as they hosted a Wright County rival and a Top of Iowa Conference West foe in the Belmond-Klemme Broncos at Eagle Grove Elementary School, as a part of “Coaches vs. Cancer” night.
The night started off with the girls matchup, in which Belmond-Klemme had won the last 3 meetings coming into a Tuesday. It was a slow start for both sides, but the Broncos Allison Barrus gave B-K a jolt with three, first quarter three-pointers to put her squad ahead 18-11. Eagle Grove would continue to fight on both ends, but missed shots and turnovers eventually saw the lead balloon 36-16 at halftime. Belmond-Klemme would extend the lead to 54-23, before settling for a 65-35 final score. Nadia Kaiser was the Jewell Market Player of the Game with 16 points for Eagle Grove, as Addy Lamb poured in a game-high 24 for the Broncos.
Eagle Grove’s boys followed, looking to even their record back to .500 after back-to-back losses to Manson-Northwest Webster and West Hancock. A slow start from both sides translated to a 12-9 Eagle Grove lead after one, which then grew to 29-20 as the Eagle Grove offense began to open up. The Eagles would continue to build the lead with opportunistic offense, leading 40-25 after 3, concluding with a 51-33 final. Jaxon Morris was the Jewell Market Player of the Game with 17 points, while Jordan Morris and Drake Canavan finished in double figures.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Algona to take on the Golden Bears of Bishop Garrigan.
