The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams made the trip west on Friday night, to take on the Greene County Rams in the Norsemen’s Heart of Iowa Conference opener at Greene County High School in Jefferson. The Norsemen girls entered at 1-1, while the boys were 1-0, while the Greene County girls entered at 0-1, while the boys were 1-0.
The Norsemen girls wasted little time in getting off to a fast start following their loss to Gilbert, as Maddie Gelber’s squad led Greene County 19-6 at the end of the first, and a whopping 41-9 at halftime. Roland-Story was able to set on cruise control in the 2nd half for a 63-17 thrashing of the Rams. Kamryn Lande led Roland-Story in scoring with 11, as the Norsemen forced 37 turnovers in the win.
Roland-Story’s boys followed as they looked to build off their season-opening win over rival Gilbert, and would look to do so without Jonovan Wilkinson for the 2nd consecutive game. Isaiah Naylor would pick up the slack without Wilkinson once again, as the senior point guard poured in 29 points in a 68-37 win. Senior forward Luke Patton only managed 3 points, but grabbed 14 rebounds and dished 5 assists.
The Norsemen return to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Nevada to take on the Nevada Cubs at Nevada High School.
