The Eagle Grove Eagles wrestling team made the trip down to Gilbert High School on Saturday, to compete in the Gilbert Duals. The Eagles were joined by the host Tigers, BCLUW/SH, Southeast Valley and Southeast Polk’s JV.
Eagle Grove opened their day with a 54-24 win over Southeast Valley, where all of Eagle Grove’s match wins came courtesy of falls, the quickest at 106 lbs from Mack Morgan in 33 seconds. The Eagles would follow that up with a 58-24 thrashing of BCLUW/SH, where 5 of Eagle Grove’s 6 match wins came via fall, the one exception a Nelson Rivera 18-9 major decision over Sawyer Kane at 182 lbs.
Eagle Grove then moved on to Southeast Polk’s JV, where the Eagles picked up a stiffer match from the younger Rams after a fast start that included 4 pins and a tech fall from the Eagles, beginning at 120 lbs. The Eagles would weather the storm for a 48-30 win, before getting their stiffest test of the evening from Iowa Falls-Alden.
The Cadets would take 6 of the first 8 matches (including 2 forfeits), but the two wins from Eagle Grove’s Hayden Schafer and Dustin Dawson came as falls, to keep the Eagles alive. Fortunes turned at 195 lbs, where Trent Sorensen pinned Alex Lease, which followed with 3 forfeit wins for Eagle Grove, who then turned to Kaden Pritchard to close it out with a pin of Kaden Meyer at 120 lbs to secure a 42-33 win.
Eagle Grove rounded out their perfect day with a 54-24 win over the hosts in Gilbert. Mack Morgan went a perfect 4-0 on the day at 113 lbs, as did Kaden Pritchard at 120 lbs, while Dustin Dawson went 5-0 at 145 lbs. Trent Sorenson would go 3-0 at 195 lbs, as did Jack Mendoza at 220 lbs.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Thursday, as they complete in a tri-dual with Northwood-Kensett and Nashua-Plainfield.
