The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboy and Cowgirl basketball teams opened North Central Conference play at home on Friday night, as they hosted the Gaels of Fort Dodge, St. Edmond at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School in Clarion.
The CGD girls picked up where they left off following their domination of Eagle Grove on Monday, as the Cowgirls sprinted out to a 27-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was much of the same as CGD outscored the Gaels 14-5 in the frame and led 41-11 at halftime. Liz Ennis’s crew would remain on cruise control from there on out and claimed a 62-26 win. Lexie Lane finished with a game-high 27 points for the Cowgirls.
Jason Berning’s Cowboys looked to rebound following their season-opening loss to Eagle Grove, and the Cowboys responded in kind with a 58-40 win in their NCC opener. Carson Nesheim led the way with 20 points, while Nevan Foss stuffed the statsheet with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and a steal.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Iowa Falls to take on the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden at Iowa Falls-Alden High School.
