The Webster City Lynx basketball teams held their first girls/boys doubleheader of the season on Thursday night, as they welcomed the Indians of Pocahontas Area to Webster City High School. The matchup between the two was originally slated for Tuesday, but was moved to Thursday due to poor weather and road conditions on Tuesday.
Webster City’s girls had the daunting task of facing a Pocahontas Area team that is currently ranked #9 in Class 2A according to the IGHSAU. It was a fast and furious start for the Indians, who led 25-2 after the first quarter, and then extended that lead to 50-10 at the halftime break. From there, Pocahontas Area would ride on cruise control for the rest of the game for a 74-21 win. Chloe Anderson led the Lynx with 5 points.
The boys game followed and would turn out to be a reversal of the girls game, with the Lynx jumping all over the hapless Indians early, thanks to a big night from senior guard Jamie Grossoehme, who poured in a game-high 29 points overall. Webster City rode the play of Grossoehme and Briar Klaver’s 23 points to an 82-34 win over Pocahontas Area.
The Lynx girls return to action on Friday night when they travel to Clear Lake. The Lynx boys return to action on Tuesday, when they host South Central Calhoun.
