Webster City city council to discuss what to do with buildings in the 700 block of Des Moines Street at their Monday meeting.

One of the issues at this Monday evening’s Webster City city council meeting is to hear the request by Shawn Anderson for a hearing on the unsafe building at 719 Des Moines Street where Mornin’ Glory Coffee Shop is located. Last September 16th, a portion of the south side of the building at 721 Des Moines collapsed. Since then barricades have surrounded the building and in the last few weeks, barricades have been erected in a portion of the 700 block of First Street. The council will look at the next step in this situation on either repairing, rehabilitate,demolition or removal.
Two public hearings will be on the agenda this Monday evening. The first hearing is for the proposed plans, specifications, form of contract and estimate of cost for the Lincoln Drive Project set for next year. The second hearing is for the proposed plans, specifications,form of contract and estimate of cost for the Boone River Concrete Panel Replacement project. The second reading on a change in sewer rental rates will be on the agenda.
In other council matters, the date of December 19 at 6:05 p.m. will be set for a public hearing for a public improvement project to construct the Fair Meadow Drive Widening and Reconstruction Project and to acquire the property for the project. A request from the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce for the closing of streets for the Christmas in the City Parade from 4:00 until 6:30 p.m. The area includes Seneca Street between Bank and Second-Alley access will be blocked, Second Street from Seneca to Prospect and intersection closure at Prospect and Second Street. There will also be a discussion and council action on the Wilson Brewer Historic Park Commission’s recommendation for the current advisory committee to take over the operation of the Wilson Brewer Park as soon as possible to begin negotiation with Hamilton County plus other matters.
