This week the South Hamilton Community School board received its enrollment numbers for the 2022-23 year. There were 626 resident students enrolled as of October 1 which is down 4 students for last year’s 630 number. As for the total number of students attending South Hamilton schools, the number was at 670 which is down 10 students from the previous year.
The board tabled action on the elementary tuckpointing project pending updated information and will be discussed at a future board meeting. A bid from Orning Glass for $29,218 to replace the seven windows in the 5th-6th grade wing of the school with the work set for next summer.
A request from Emily Bochmann to travel abroad with South Hamilton sudents to Costa Rica in Central America in the summer of 2024 was approved with Explorica.
In other matters, the South Hamilton board approved moving forward with a redistricting plan that includes four director districts and one at-large seat and set the public hearing for the December 12th school board meeting at 6:00 p.m.
Superintendent Heather Holm reported the expenditures at the end of October for the South Hamilton General Fund stood at $1,822,881 which is 20.31 percent of the General Fund Line Item Budget for the 2023 Fiscal Year. Holm also thanked the students, staff and for those who attended the Veterans Day program on November 11.
Five early retirement applications were approved by the South Hamilton board this week. The applications came from Melissa Coy, Kerri Doering, Janet Greufe, Cindy Riedemann and Shirley Nelson. The retirements will take effect at the end of the current school year in the spring.
