The IHSAA released districts for boys wrestling on Friday afternoon, showing where all 5 KQ-area schools would be competing at for a chance to send their teams and individuals to the state tournament in Des Moines. 2022-23 brings a different path to the Well, with sectionals now abolished and districts the only means to qualify for the state meet.
Webster City will host a district meet for the 2nd year in a row, as they are the host for Class 2A, District 10. The Lynx are ranked #6 in the IAWrestle Preseason 2A Tournament Team rankings with 4 ranked wrestlers. Roland-Story is also in District 10 as the Norsemen are ranked #9 in Class 2A. Joining the Lynx and Norsemen are (2A) #7 Greene County, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Gilbert, Humboldt and Southeast Valley.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove also remain in Class 2A, and will travel to Iowa Falls-Alden for the Class 2A, District 7 meet. The overwhelming favorite in District 7 is defending Class 2A State Champion and preseason #1 Osage, who returns every athlete from their varsity lineup in 2022. Also joining the Cowboys and Eagles are Clear Lake, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and South Hardin.
South Hamilton is classified in Class 1A and will travel to Ogden to compete in the Class 1A, District 7 meet. The host Bulldogs are ranked #7 in Class 1A in the preseason, while preseason #5 Emmetsburg will also be traveling to Ogden. Other teams in District 7 include AGWSR, Collins-Maxwell, Manson-Northwest Webster, North Tama, St. Edmond, West Bend-Mallard and West Hancock.
All 3 District Tournaments will be held on Saturday, February 11th at 10 AM.
