The Webster City Lynx volleyball team opened up Class 4A, Region 6 volleyball action on Tuesday night, as they hosted their Highway 20 rivals in the Fort Dodge Dodgers at Webster City High School. The Lynx entered with a record of 20-15 and 5-2 in the NCC, while the Dodgers entered with a 9-23 mark and a 5-4 record in the Iowa Alliance.
It was a slow start for the Lynx in the opening set, with execution mistakes and Fort Dodge’s aggressive play saw the Dodgers take the opening set 25-23. The Lynx would rebound in the next 2 sets with wins of 25-21 and 25-18, before Fort Dodge would find their energy from the first set and claimed a 25-19 win in set 4, to send the match to a winner-take-all 5th set. Webster City trailed by as much as 3 in the final set, but stormed back to take a 15-11 win and win the match 3-2.
Reese Casey had a career-night for the Lynx, tallying 15 kills in the win, as Sierra Rattenborg and Livia Kasch had 9 kills each. Joslin Gourley matched a season-high with 25 assists, while Fallon Casey added 15 assists. Fort Dodge’s Maggie Elsbecker matched Gourley with 25 assists, while sophomore Cadence Touney finished with 15 kills.
Webster City advances to the Class 4A, Region 6 semifinals for the 2nd year in a row to take on the Western Dubuque Bobcats on Thursday night in Epworth. First serve is slated for 7 PM from Western Dubuque High School.
