Roland-Story volleyball fends off South Tama County in 3A-6 opener, 3-1

The Roland-Story Norsemen volleyball team opened up Class 3A, Region 6 action on Monday night when they hosted the Trojans of South Tama County at Roland-Story High School in Story City. The Norsemen entered with a record of 21-12 and 5-2 in the HOIC, while South Tama entered with a record of 12-23 and 0-6 in the WaMaC West.

The first set was neck and neck, before Roland-Story took over to claim the opener by a score of 25-16. The Norsemen would hold a 22-14 lead over the Trojans in set 2, but a fierce comeback from STC, compiled by Roland-Story mistakes, gave the Trojans a 25-23 set 2 win. Roland-Story would respond with a 25-18 win in set 3, before clinging on to a narrow set 4 victory, by a margin of 25-23 to advance to the 3A, Region 6 semifinal.

Sophomore Kamryn Lande had a stellar night, as she unofficially recorded 16 kills and tallied 4 aces, while Madelyn Risdal added 12 more kills and an ace. Kortney Babinet tallied 9 kills and 2 aces for South Tama County.

Roland-Story returns to action on Wednesday, as they travel to (3A) #15 Vinton-Shellsburg for their Class 3A, Region 6 semifinal at 7 PM
