The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball teams faced off with one another at Webster City High School on Thursday night. The Lynx entered with an 18-12 record and 4-2 in conference play, while the Cowgirls entered with a 22-3 mark and 6-0 in conference play.
The Cowgirls entered Thursday with an opportunity to clinch an outright North Central Conference title for the 4th time in 5 years, while it was senior night for one of the most successful groups in program history for Webster City.
The opening set was a war between the two sides, going into extra sets, but with CGD grinding out a 26-24 win. Set 2 again was a back-and-forth affair, but with the Cowgirls edging out the Lynx with a 25-19 win. Set 3 would be the most decisive set of the night for the Cowgirls, as they never trailed in the set to take it 25-18 for the 3-0 sweep and an outright conference title.
Lexie Lane saved, perhaps, her best performance of the season for last, with the senior tallying in 19 kills, while adding a block, 13 digs and an ace.
