The South Hamilton Hawks and Roland-Story Norsemen cross country teams made the trek to State Center on Monday night, to compete in the annual Heart of Iowa Conference Meet at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center. The Hawks and Norsemen were joined by the host Trojans, Perry, PCM, Nevada, Greene County and Saydel.
In the girls meet, Roland-Story sophomore Claire Truesdell was the conference champion in a time of 21:13.46. Teammate Lauryn Kilstofte was runner-up as the junior finished in a mark of 21:41.8. The Roland-Story lineup was rounded out by Makenna Carlson in 8th in 22:39.35, Brooke Thompson in 19th in 24:10.04 and Olivia Younes in 30th in 26:04.22 as the Norsemen placed runner-up to conference champs Nevada. South Hamilton placed 7th in the meet with 152 points, with freshman Olivia Beaune as the top finisher in 9th in 23:13.99. Senior Paige Doolittle placed 17th in 24:02.94, McKenna Miller placed 33rd in 26:29.22, Kayley Zanker placed 48th in 28:01.01, while Bianca Seaton rounded out the scoring at 61st in 31:29.29.
The boys meet saw the South Hamilton boys take 3rd behind conference champions Nevada and runners-up Greene County. The Hawks top runner was senior Landon Grove, who claimed the runner-up spot behind Nevada’s Carter Holland in 18:44.33. The next to placer for the Hawks was senior Eli Potter in 14th in 19:45.43, followed by Pete Coburn in 22nd in 20:22.94, Bobby Tapper in 30th in 21:03.97 and Benjamin Bailey in 32nd in 21:12.39. Roland-Story placed 6th with 155 points, with the top placer in sophomore Evan Voga in 10th at 19:23.73. Lukas Wuebker would place 28th in 20:56.71, Luccas Hart would be 39th in 21:37.11, Colten Lucchesi placed 47th in 21:57.08, and Nolan Rhoad rounded out the lineup placing 51st in 22:20.75.
