Area Teams compete in Dick Bell Invitational in Eagle Grove

The Webster City, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove cross country teams returned to action on Tuesday evening, competing in the annual Dick Bell Invitational at the Eagle Grove Golf Course in Eagle Grove. Other teams competing included Algona, Belmond-Klemme, Bishop Garrigan, Central Springs, Emmetsburg, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Gilbert (3A #6 in Boys and Girls), GTRA, Humboldt, North Iowa (girls 1A #12), South Hardin and West Fork.

All 3 teams competed in the Class A meet, with Eagle Grove the highest placer on the boys side in 4th with 123 points. Drake Weland placed 11th in a time of 18:41.60, while Noah Thul placed 29th in 20:07.07. Zabdi Castro placed 31st, Dylan Beck placed 41st, Zach Hogrefe placed 42nd, Felix Gonzalez placed 53rd and Patrick Heaton placed 64th. Webster City placed 7th with 162 points, led by senior Brayden Henely in 25th, in a time of 19:57, while Aiden Rahe placed 33rd in 20:16. Jack Barner would place 47th, Owen Patterson in 50th, Kyzer Zinnel in 76th, Gabe Rollins in 80th and Aiden Rollins in 85th. CGD did not compete in the team race, as Christopher Greenfield placed 38th in 20:53.51, while Tate Jackson placed 63rd and Hunter Smidt placed 100th.

None of the 3 area teams were able to compete in the team race on the girls side, but the top area finisher was Eagle Grove’s Maddie Axtell, who placed 25th in 24:29.16, while Savannah Gilbert placed 27th in 24:32.26. Webster City saw Emma Peck place 30th in 24:42.29, while Caroline Ehn and Natalie Eggers placed 73rd and 74th respectively. The only CGD runner who competed on the girls side was Lauren Hansch, who placed 76th.
