The South Hamilton Hawks returned to the friendly confines of Taylor Field on Friday night, as they hosted the Titans of South Central Calhoun in Class 1A, District 2 action. The Hawks entered with a 4-1 record and 2-0 district record, while the Titans entered with a 3-2 record and a similar 2-0 district record.
South Hamilton would strike first after an SCC punt, marching down the field and capping their opening drive with a 12-yard Nick Severseike touchdown to put the Hawks up 8-0. The Titans would march down the field on their ensuing drive, but were denied any points as Gavin Batta was intercepted by Teagan Trask at the goal line. Both sides would trade punts, before South Hamilton would strike again on a Nick Seversieke for 44-yard touchdown run to put the Hawks up 16-0. SCC would fumble the ensuing kickoff, and South Hamilton would strike again immediately following, with Nick Seversieke achieving the first half hat trick, busting a 34-yard touchdown run to put the Hawks up 24-0. The Titans would respond by driving the field in punching in a short Brock Nattress touchdown to cut the score to 24-8. The Hawks would punch another score in before halftime, with Noah Gunderson scoring from 2 yards out to give the Hawks a 32-8 halftime lead.
The 2nd half would follow a similar script to the first half, as Landon Skartvedt would score a 65-yard touchdown run on the opening drive, thanks to a botched punt attempt, to put South Hamilton up 38-8. The play opened the flood gates for Paul Skartvedt’s Hawks, with Landon Skartvedt picking off a Gavin Batta pass on the ensuing drive, returning it to the SCC 35. Skartvedt would then punch in a 12-yard touchdown run to make it 46-8 South Hamilton. A fumble on the ensuing SCC possession, resulted in another short field for the Hawks, the drive capped by a Blake Harris 1-yard touchdown run to give South Hamilton a dominant 54-8 lead. Freshman Kolby Hodnefield would stamp the exclamation point on the win with an 80-yard touchdown run to bring the final score to 62-8.
South Hamilton takes command of Class 1A, District 2 with the win, moving to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in district play, while South Central Calhoun dropped to 3-3 and 2-1 in district play.
