Webster City, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove cross country teams made the trek north to the furthest north NCC city as they competed in the Algona XC Invitational at River Road Golf Course in Algona. The Lynx, Cowboys/Cowgirls and Eagles were joined by the host Bulldogs, Bishop Garrigan, Charles City, Clear Lake, Emmetsburg, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Forest City, Fort Dodge, GTRA, Humboldt, Mason City, North Union, Okoboji, Pocahontas Area, Spencer, Spirit Lake, St. Edmond and West Bend-Mallard.
On the girls side, the Lynx did not qualify for the team race, and were led by senior Emma Peck, who placed 52nd in a time of 23:23. Sophomore Karina Murray placed 71st in 24:44, while senior Carly Appel placed 101st in 31:06. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows also did not qualify for the team race, as their top placer was Makayla Pulido, who placed 99th in 29:11. while Lauren Hansch placed 105th in 35:09. Eagle Grove did not send a girls squad to Algona. Mason City won the girls team title with 73 points, while Clear Lake’s Addison Doughan was the individual champion in 19:06.
On the boys side, Eagle Grove was the top placer for the KQ-area, with the Eagles placing 12th with 321 points. Junior Noah Thul was the Eagles top finisher, placing 47th in 19:27, while sophomore Zabdi Castro placed 58th in 19:49. Zach Hogrefe would place 63rd, freshman Felix Gonzalez took 75th, sophomore Dylan Beck placed 78th and freshman Patrick Heaton took 80th.
Webster City would place 14th with 387 points. Brayden Henely was the top placer at 55th in 19:45, while freshman Jack Barner placed 77th in 20:57. Owen Patterson and Aiden Rahe placed 84th and 85th, respectively, and Kyzer Zinnel placed 86th. Gabe Rollins and Wyatt Bingham placed 91st and 92nd to round out the lineup. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows did not qualify for the team race as Christopher Greenfield was the Cowboys top placer at 85th in 21:18. Tate Jackson placed 88th, while Ethan Boots placed 103rd. Okoboji was the team champion with 51 points, while St. Edmond’s Aaron Lursen was the individual champion in 16:50.
