The South Hamilton Hawks football team capped off their homecoming week with a district showdown against the Hawks of Woodward-Granger on Friday night. South Hamilton entered the game 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in district play, while Woodward-Granger entered 2-2 overall and also 1-0 in the district.
South Hamilton would take the ball to begin the night, marching down the field against the Woodward-Granger defense and punching in a 1-yard touchdown run from fullback Blake Harris to give the Hawks an 8-0 lead. A turnover on the ensuing South Hamilton possession would give Woodward-Granger a short field that they would capitalize on, as quarterback Carter Moran punched in a 4-yard touchdown run to make the score 8-6 after a failed 2-point conversion. South Hamilton would drive the field again at the start of the 2nd quarter, with Blake Harris punching in his 2nd touchdown of the night to give the Hawks a 14-6 lead.
Woodward-Granger would then tie it up on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Carter Moran to Nick Rees, along with the 2-point conversion to make it 14-14. South Hamilton would manage time wisely late in the first half, again marching the field and punching in a Tjerdan Johnson sneak to make it 22-14 South Hamilton going into halftime. Teams would trade possessions in the 3rd quarter, until the Hawks broke off a big one courtesy of Landen Skartvedt on a 34-yard touchdown run to put South Hamilton up 30-14. Paul Skartvedt’s squad would then land the crushing blow, on a drive highlighted by a 69-yard halfback pass from Landen Skartvedt to Teegan Trask, Nick Seversieke punched in a 2-yard touchdown run to seal a 38-14 homecoming win for South Hamilton.
South Hamilton moved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the district, while Woodward-Granger dropped to 2-3 and 1-1 in the district. South Hamilton hosts South Central Calhoun on Friday, while Woodward-Granger takes on Belmond-Klemme.
