High School Football – Week 5 Outstanding Performances

Week 5 for the high school football season showcased some season-best performances for KQ-area teams and athletes. From Webster City’s near 700 yards rushing, to players such as CGD’s Nevan Foss and Roland-Story’s Jonovan Wilkinson carrying their teams to victory, this is the best of the best from Week 5.

Webster City RB Jaxon Cherry

Cherry ran for a career-high 248 yards and 6 touchdowns on 28 carries against the Fort Dodge Dodgers on Friday night. Cherry’s season numbers now sit at 108 carries for 854 yards and 14 touchdowns, while averaging nearly 8 yards per carry. Cherry’s 14 touchdowns are the most rushing touchdowns in Class 4A.

Webster City Offensive Line

The Webster City Offensive Line paved the way against the Dodgers of Fort Dodge High on Friday night, as the Lynx ran for 678 yards and 9 touchdowns against their Highway 20 rival. The offensive line of Max Kumm, Brandon Lahr, Josh Stansfield, Dylan Burnette-Bingham, Brandon Griffin and tight end Keegan Hisler helped the Webster City backs set a new program-best in rushing yards under Bob Howard and possibly a new overall school-record.

South Hamilton RB Landon Skartvedt

Skartvedt saw a bigger workload in his 2nd game back from injury against Woodward-Granger, following a limited workload in the Hawks blowout win over Belmond-Klemme. Skartvedt carried the ball 18 times for 122 yards and a 34-yard touchdown run to open the 2nd half. Skartvedt also had a pass completion on a halfback pass to Teagan Trask that went for 69 yards and set up the punctuating touchdown in the Hawks 38-14 rolling of Woodward-Granger on homecoming.

Roland-Story RB Jonovan Wilkinson

Wilkinson bounced back from injury against Albia a week ago to rush for over 100 yards in the Norsemen’s shutout win against the Blue Demons. Against Chariton, Wilkinson showcased his overall ability as a runner, carrying the ball 25 times for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 46-yard touchdown run that sealed the 24-14 win over the Chargers and keep Roland-Story’s district record perfect.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows RB Nevan Foss

Foss was the outstanding runner in Friday’s game with Pocahontas Area, carrying the ball 16 times for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His final touchdown was a 59-yard sprint that gave the Cowboys the lead for good against the Indians, and gave CGD their first district win since a 76-0 win over Eagle Grove on October 9th, 2020.

Eagle Grove RB Orlando Hernandez

Hernandez was Eagle Grove’s top runner against South Central Calhoun, carrying the ball 7 times for 70 yards and a touchdown, most of that coming on his 67-yard touchdown run at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Hernandez also had an outstanding game defensively, tied for the team lead with 9 tackles including a tackle for loss.
