The Webster City Lynx opened up Class 4A, District 1 action on Friday night, as they made the trip west on old Highway 20 to Dodger Stadium to face off with Fort Dodge Dodgers. Webster City entered with a 2-2 record, as did the Fort Dodge.
Webster City would strike first on a 4-yard touchdown run from Jaxon Cherry to put the Lynx up 7-0. The Lynx would turn a Fort Dodge punt into points soon thereafter on a 3-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ty McKinney to make it 13-0 Lynx. Ty McKinney would follow that up with another touchdown run from 9 yards out to make the score 21-0 midway through the 2nd quarter.
Fort Dodge would finally get on the board soon following on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Connor Carver to Grant Williams to bring the score to 21-8. Webster City would then execute a well-run 4-minute drill, resulting in a Jaxon Cherry touchdown from 7 yards out to make the score 27-8 at halftime.
Webster City would come out of the gate strong in the 2nd half, with Jaxon Cherry scoring from 2 yards out to put the Lynx up 35-8. However, Fort Dodge’s Javion Jondle would return the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to cut the score to 35-15 midway through the 3rd quarter. The Lynx would respond with back-to-back touchdowns from Ty McKinney and Jaxon Cherry to take a commanding 49-15 lead.
The Dodgers would respond with another 41-yard touchdown pass from Connor Carver to Grant Williams to cut it to 49-23, but Jaxon Cherry would salt the game away for the Webster City with back-to-back touchdowns, giving him 6 on the night, as the Lynx took home a 62-23 win.
Jaxon Cherry and CJ Hisler both cracked the 200-yard mark, with Cherry rushing for 248 yards and 6 touchdowns, while Hisler rushed for 215 yards. Lynx quarterback Ty McKinney rushed for 190 yards and 3 touchdowns as well, as Webster City rushed for 678 yards as a team, a program-best under Bob Howard.
Webster City travels to LeMars next Friday.
