Webster City baseball falls to Storm Lake, 9-7

The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to the home field on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Storm Lake Tornadoes in non-conference action. Storm Lake entered the contest with a 5-3 record, while Webster City sat at 4-3.

The Tornadoes would strike first, scoring an unearned run in the 1st to take a 1-0 lead, which would stand until the 4th inning. Storm Lake would then get to Webster City starter Devon Stoakes, tagging him for 4 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Lynx would get a pair back as Devon Stoakes laced an RBI single and Keegan Hisler mashed an RBI double. A scoreless top of the 4th for the Tornadoes, snowballed into a 4-run bottom of the 4th for the Lynx, scoring on two RBI singles and a sac fly from Josh Stansfield, Ty McKinney and Devon Stoakes to give the Lynx a 6-5 advantage.

Storm Lake would tie the game again in the top of the 5th, before a Josh Stansfield RBI double would give Webster City the lead back at 7-6 going into the 6th. The Lynx offense would sputter from there, with the Tornadoes plating 2 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th to claim a 9-7 win.

Webster City returns to action on Wednesday night, as they host the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
