The South Hamilton Hawks and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls softball teams met up on Tuesday night in a battle of area teams on the new softball diamond at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. The Hawks entered with a record of 2-1, while the Cowgirls entered at 1-2.
The game got off to an explosive start for the Hawks, plating 4 runs in the 1st inning, highlighted by a 3-run, inside-the-park home run by Kate Barkema. The Hawks would plate 4 more in the 2nd and 6 more in the 3rd to hold a 14-0 lead and claim a 14-0 win after 3 innings. RBI’s came courtesy of Mackenzy Grady (6), who also belted her first home run of the season, Anna Lammers (3), Kate Barkema (7), Makena Galetich (2), Paige Doolittle (1) and Caleigh Hewitt (4). Makena Galetich also struck out 5 batters in 3 innings of work.
South Hamilton returns to action on Wednesday when they host Saydel at South Hamilton High School at 7:30 PM. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows is back in action on Wednesday when they host Humboldt at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School at 7:30 PM.
