South Hamilton baseball picks up first win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 12-2

The South Hamilton Hawks and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball teams met up on Tuesday night for a battle of area teams at Hanson Park in Clarion. South Hamilton entered with a record of 0-4, while CGD entered with a record of 2-5.

The scoring started early for the Hawks as a Tycin Barkema RBI double put the Hawks ahead 1-0. Errors then became a problem for the Cowboys, leading 2 of the 4 runs scored in the inning, with the Hawks up 4-0 after 1. Scoring would be quiet in the 2nd, before South Hamilton would strike again with a 2-out, 2-run RBI double from Landon Grove told extend the advantage to 6-0. Another run in the 4th put South Hamilton up 7-0. The Hawks would plate an 8th run in the 6th, before a pair of RBI hits from Preston Gardner and Cael Chase cut the score to 8-2. The 7th inning saw the Hawks again capitalize off CGD mistakes, plating 4 runs in the frame to top off a 12-2 victory. The victory was career win #1 for Hawks head coach Cole Swenson as well.

South Hamilton returns to action on Wednesday night as they host the Saydel Eagles at South Hamilton High School in Jewell at 7:30 PM. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows hits the road for NCC action on Wednesday as they take on the Humboldt Wildcats at Humboldt High School at 7:30 PM.
