The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned home on Friday night, as the Hawks welcomed in the Greene County Rams to South Hamilton High School in Jewell. The Rams entered with a record of 0-1, while the Hawks entered with a record of 1-1.
For 4 1/2 innings, it was a pitchers duel between Rams starter Olivia Shannon and Hawks starter Anna Lammers. It was South Hamilton who broke the scoreless knot in the bottom of the 5th, as Mackenzy Grady laced an RBI single into left field to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Greene County would answer with a Emma Hoyle RBI to tie the game at 1-1 headed into the bottom of the 6th. That was when the Hawks broke open the flood gates, as Kate Barkema led off the inning with a triple, as walks and wild pitches, saw the Hawks lead grow to 4-1, before an Anna Lammers 2-run RBI single gave South Hamilton a 6-1 lead. The Hawks would add another run in the inning to hold a 7-1 lead and claim the win against the Rams.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, when they face off with the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Middle School in Clarion, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
