Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball falls short against Forest City, 11-9

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Friday Night as they hosted the Indians of Forest City from the Top of Iowa Conference, West Division. The Indians entered 0-1 following a 16-2 loss in their season-opener against Mason City Newman, while CGD entered at 2-1, following their first loss to South Hardin.

Forest City got on the board early with a run in the first with a Truman Knudtson RBI single to bring in Kellen Moore to give the Indians a 1-0 lead. CGD would wait until the bottom of the 2nd to get on the board, off a Thane Jackson RBI single, and a steal of a home by Nick Carpenter gave the Cowboys a 2-1 lead. Forest City then brought the onslaught in the 3rd, scoring 6 runs in the frame to take a 7-2 lead over the Cowboys.

CGD would get a run back in the bottom of the 3rd as Preston Gardner would score on a balk by Truman Knudston to make it 7-3. A scoreless 4th led into a bottom of the 5th that saw the Cowboys storm back. Cael Chase got the first run of the inning in off an RBI Groundout to cut it to 7-4, before Mason Allen slapped an RBI single to make it 7-5. Porter Chase would then score off a wild pitch to bring it to 7-6, before Thane Jackson gave the Cowboys the lead with a 2-run RBI single to make it 8-7.

Forest City would take the lead back in the 5th, as Jaxon Archer scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, followed by a Ryland Lichtsinn walk that scored Omar Baez to give the Indians a 9-8 lead. The Cowboys would tie it back up in the bottom of the 6th of a Mason Allen RBI Groundout to make it 9-9. The 7th would go scoreless, as the game went into extra innings, and the Indians would be the ones to seize the opportunity. Tommy Miller’s RBI Single and Jaxon Archer’s RBI Double gave Forest City an 11-9 lead, and the Cowboys were unable to answer in the bottom of the 8th to fall to 2-2.

Next action for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will be Monday night when they travel to Estherville to take on Estherville-Lincoln Central at 7:30 PM.
