KQ-area athletes descended upon Drake Stadium in Des Moines for the third and final day of the 2022 Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships. Following up a historic Day 2, Day 3 proved to be an exciting one for some area schools.
The day kicked off just after 9 AM with the running of the 2A Girls Sprint Medley, where South Hamilton finished 13th in a time of 1:54.49 with the quartet of Kate Barkema-Makena Galetich-Kelbe Krumm-Ashlyn Erickson. Roland-Story followed up with an 8th place finish in a time of 1:53.53 with Adalyn Sporleder-Reagan Faber-Kamryn Lande-Lauryn Kilstofte. The 2A Boys Sprint Medley then followed with Roland-Story capturing 7th in a time of 1:36.31 with the team of Nate Johnson-Will Bunn-Gavin Carpenter-Kale Lande.
Two individual events followed for KQ-athletes, with Roland-Story’s Lauryn Kilstofte placing 21st in the 2A Girls 800 Meter Run in a time of 2:30.56, and just after 1 PM, South Hamilton’s Tanner Blue placed 4th in the 2A Boys 110 Meter High Hurdles in a time of 14.90.
Following a long layover, the relays then picked up again with the 2A Girls 4×100 Meter Relay, which saw the Roland-Story team of Adalyn Sporleder-Kennedy Petersen-Reagan Faber-Kamryn Lande place 5th in a time of 51.23. The Norse boys then followed in the 2A Boys 4×100 Meter Relay with a 2nd place finish by just 5 hundredths of a second behind Williamsburg in a time of 43.20, with the foursome of Nate Johnson-Will Bunn-Gavin Carpenter-Eli Thorson. Finally, Roland-Story rounded out the 2022 State Meet in the 2A Boys 4×400 Meter Relay, placing 4th in a time of 3:27.03 with the quartet of Kale Lande-Jonovan Wilkinson-Hesston Johnson-Gavin Carpenter.
The final team tallies showed Roland-Story and South Hamilton tied for 9th in the 2A Boys standings with 23 points a piece, Webster City was tied for 25th in the 3A Boys standings with 10 points. In the 2A Girls standings, Roland-Story placed 18th with 15 points, while South Hamilton placed 28th with 4 points, all set to a record 3-day crowd for the State Track and Field Meet, with an attendance total of 39,415.
